How it works
A steady path from first conversation to a registered Lasting Power of Attorney. The donor is the person making the LPA.
Step 1: Enquire
Fill out our form so we can arrange a free initial consultation.
Step 2: Tell us about you
Answer a few straightforward questions online or speak with us personally.
Step 3: We prepare everything
Your LPAs are prepared carefully and checked with you before signing.
Step 4: You sign
We give you a simple checklist so everyone signs in the right order.
Step 5: We send it to the OPG
We check the signed forms and send them to the Office of the Public Guardian for registration on your behalf.
Step 6: Registered
The OPG registers your LPA, and we let you know as soon as it's done.
The signing order
The order in which people sign matters, and forms are signed in wet ink. We give you a plain checklist so each person signs at the right point.
- 1.The donor signs any continuation sheets and, for a health and welfare LPA, Section 5, then Section 9. A witness (not an attorney) watches and signs.
- 2.The certificate provider signs Section 10, after the donor.
- 3.Each attorney and replacement attorney signs Section 11, with a witness (not the donor).
- 4.The person applying to register (usually the donor) signs Section 15, after all the attorneys.
- 5.We post form LP3 to any people to notify for you, check every page, and send the LPA to the OPG.
What we do, and what we do not do
What we do
- Prepare your LPA forms from what you tell us.
- Explain the process in plain English.
- Give practical guidance on the signing order.
- Provide a plain checklist for signing and returning the forms to us.
- Check the signed forms and send them to the OPG for registration on your behalf. The application is made in the name of the donor or an attorney, as the law requires.
What we do not do
- We do not make medical or mental capacity assessments.
Our guarantee
If the OPG returns your LPA because of a mistake we made, we'll put it right and pay any resubmission fee.
